Lynx Solar Collector

The future of our environment is more important today then it has ever been. Lynx Solar distributors, along with our International partners, have produced a range of solar collectors that are efficient, are made of the best quality materials and are engineered to a high standard. The Lynx Solar collector provides excellent heat output and is very reliable in its operation. With today’s technology and good product design, linked with a low manufacturing cost, Lynx Solar collectors are now very affordable for the domestic and commercial market. They will give you savings on energy costs as oil, gas and electric become more expensive in the future.

Lynx solar collectors can be used for many different functions as this high quality system provides excellent heat output and is very reliable in its operation. As a result it can be used not only for solar hot water, but also for heating systems such as underfloor in new buildings and homes using thermal stores. It can also be used to preheat water for existing heating systems where gas or oil boilers are used. Lynx Solar collectors can save around 50% of energy costs in high latitudes and in many cases over 90% nearer the equator.

WHY USE EVACUATED TUBE COLLECTORS?

  • Lynx Solar evacuated tube collectors have high efficiency in capturing and converting the sun’s energy, which is free and we can then use it to our advantage.
  • Due to the design of the Lynx Solar evacuated tube collector, both heat and light are captured, taking in the sun’s rays from sun-up to sun-down. Flat plate panels only have the best of the sun at midday so are less efficient and therefore more square meters of collector are needed to obtain the same energy.
  • Lynx Solar evacuated tubes give excellent performance in winter and can stand up to high winds and hailstones.
  • Lynx Solar evacuated tube collectors are now very affordable and give a good return for money spent by saving energy costs.

How the Lynx Solar evacuated tubes work

At the core of the Lynx collector is the patented and extremely effective evacuated tube collector. Evacuated tube collectors will provide you with more annual output than that of a standard flat plate unit. The reason being is that for the same square meter area they will produce more energy.

Due to the design of the Lynx Solar evacuated tube collector, both heat and light are captured, taking in the suns rays from sun-up to sun-down. Flat plate panels only have the best of the sun at midday so are less efficient and therefore more square meters of collector are needed to obtain the same energy.

Also with a flat plate collector, it needs to face due south, whereas a Lynx evacuated tube collector can be set up in different ways depending on the location of individual installations. Furthermore, the evacuated tube collector can also work very well in windy and cold conditions. The beauty of an evacuated tube is that it can store the heat for much longer periods of time and during times when the energy is not being used. And it will still provide heat transfer to the system after the sun has gone down.

Generally there are different qualities of evacuated tubes. The Lynx thermal evacuated collector consists of two glass tubes of extremely strong transparent borosilicate glass one within the other. They are given three different coatings, one, a reflective layer, two, an absorption layer and three, an infrared layer. These are all applied to the glass in a high temperature furnace.

The top of the twin tube is then heated to a high temperature which seals the two together, and at the bottom of the tube there is a spring holder inserted to create an equal cavity between the two. The air is then drawn out and the tubes are sealed thus creating a vacuum within the cavity. It is this vacuum cavity that retains the heat within the inner tube (it is the same principle as a vacuum flask, you put your hot coffee in first thing in the morning and it is still hot several hours later). The vacuum inside the glass tube also provides a high level of insulation making the Lynx Solar collector extremely efficient.

Inserted into the vacuum tube is a heat absorber, which is usually made of aluminium. A copper heat pipe is then inserted through the centre. Solar rays pass through the glass tube and the heat is transferred from the absorber to the copper heat pipe. Inside the heat pipe a nontoxic liquid carries the heat to the top of the collector unit where it is subsequently transferred into the manifold. From here it heats the water passing through to your hot water system or heating system or both.

Because the tube is round this configuration maximises the solar collection area, whilst minimising reflection, from sun-up to sun-down.

Lynx is reliable and maintenance free

Once installed a Lynx evacuated tube solar collector system should last as long as the roof of its location. It is frost protected as the water manifold is wrapped in 50mm of glass wool and there is no water in the tubes to freeze. Furthermore, there is no need for complicated anti-freeze heat exchange systems.

The Lynx evacuated solar collector has a long life span and is able to endure the impact of hail up to 25mm in diameter. It can also withstand high winds as the distance between the tubes allows the air to pass through.

Once the system has been installed it should never need to be touched again. The round shape of the tubes means that wind and rain will actually keep the unit clean and functioning optimally.

As the worldwide demand for renewable energy technologies increases, Lynx solar products help to preserve our environment and look after the natural beauty of this planet for future generations.

Lynx Solar evacuated tube solar collectors not only stop us being so reliant on oil, electricity and gas, they will also help look after the environment by slowing down the emissions that are now pumped into our atmosphere. Lynx Solar try to use whenever possible recyclable materials and even the packaging is recycled cardboard.

The savings Lynx Solar brings

A Lynx Solar system can be retrofitted to existing homes, office blocks, factories etc or included in the plans of new homes of the future. If you invest the extra capital required to include solar hot water and heating systems in your planning for the future, then the additional costs would soon be absorbed by the savings as other energy costs rise.

Lynx Solar collectors can be made to suit you

Lynx Solar collectors come in different sizes and can be made to the requirements of our customers depending on the application they require. Also our frames are adjustable making fitting easier, for example, where the latitude requires a different angle for the collector giving it maximum efficiency in winter sun.

Lynx Solar collectors are available at present in 10, 15, 20, 24 or 30 tube collector systems. As a general rule, our Lynx Solar 20 tube collector is perfect for a 180 litre water tank and a household of 1 to 3 people, while the Lynx Solar 30 tube collector suits the medium to larger sized family with a water tank of around 270 litres. Larger families and commercial users can install multiple sets of collectors with larger water tanks suitable for their hot water and heating systems.

Lynx Solar collectors will operate with low, medium and high pressure water systems.

Stainless Steel mounting frames and optional adjustable A-frames for flat roofs are available giving versatility for installation. The tubular shape and strength of the stainless steel dramatically reduces the risk of damage in high winds and other severe weather conditions.
